SBS Essentials
Windows Small Business Server Essentials version (Essentials) is a Server (obviously) designed for the home & small business. It fits the requirements of small businesses extremely well, offering a exceptional performance server for a very reasonable price. We have one of these units installed at our work place, and we are now installing, on average, one unit every couple of week into small businesses around Newcastle and as far away as Denman.
The major benefit of "Essentials" over a full blown Server is cost related. Primarily, in the initial outlay is the big saving. It is just astonishing what other computer shops charge for a Server (in excess of $10k!! for a small unit) - now I wouldn't pretend to think that "Essentials" is the answer for everyones Server needs - some programs and businesses require a huge, full blown Server - but many do not. This is where "Essentials" fills the gap and saves you money. Further ongoing maintenance costs are minimised as your "Essentials" reports back to our shop if anything goes wrong. WE DO NOT HAVE MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS - again a sensible money saver. All work is carried out on a "do and charge" process, rather than paying for often unnecessary "maintenance contracts"...
Additionally, "Essentials" is designed to be maintained by technicians that do not have all of the expensive Microsoft qualifications, which are needed to maintain a Server that is designed for a large enterprise, significantly reducing the maintenance costs.
The new "Essentials" PC would sit unattended in your building. It is fully remotely administered post installation, so it does not require a monitor, keyboard or mouse.
The system is built into a sturdy Antec case that can hold 8 hard drives if required.
Some of the benefits of having a "Essentials" computer on site are:
- Nightly backups of every PC on the Network.
- Central file location - no more jumping around the network from PC to PC looking for files.
- Ability to restore files accidently deleted on a Client PC (from nightly Backups).
- Ability to get Client PC fully running again (including all applications re-installed) within about 1 hour, after a hard drive crash.
- Network isolation – this sort of means that no matter what anyone is doing with their PC on the Network, the Server is still available.
- Access to information on the Server from any where in the world that you can get Internet (user needs to know address and secure passwords).
- Additional security – strong level passwords are required.
- Centralised printing – printer normally plugs into Server.
- Easily upgraded if more hard drive space required.
